...Reality Check number 2 from this column. Personally, I think some serious reality checks are in line for the Democrats. I've said, time and time again, that I don't agree with Bush. I actually paid attention to the Democrats primaries, so I could see who I might be voting for. Then they chose Kerry. Sadly, after some research, I vowed to vote Republican. And, I did.

I agree. Great column.
For whatever else he was, Bill Clinton gave the Democrats a chance to be the majority party by presiding over a breif period of fiscal sanity. I think that if Al Gore had run on a DLC fiscal responsibilty platform rather than a populist platform he would have won the presidency in 2000 despite carrying Clinton's moral baggage.
Kerry went even further in the populist rhetoric and was fairly incoherent about national defense.
Hi Nome,
Something happened to my computer so the in-depth analysis by me was erased:)I got to your blog by way of Dave Justus,a man I don't personally know.I was looking for something interesting to read now that my university day is over and found his blog.It appealed to me for its truthful simplicity-a rare quality. As for your latest commentary:..I didn't vote in the elections since I had no idea where or when I could cast my absantee ballot(I live in Tel-Aviv)but I,too, would have voted Republican. The previous election I voted for Gore and felt real dumb once Bush proved the only one fit for the covetted role.As an American/Israeli citizen my vote would have been based on what I feel are America's best interets rather than Israel's-although they're similar. That would-in my opinion-be the right thing to do and besides, I owe America that much.Like I told Dave,I was born in Moscow(Russia not Idaho) to a Refusnik(political dissident)and (again) immigrated-this time to Israel at the age of 19 to serve in the IDF(now I feel I may have shortchanged the country that took us in-but hey, I did what I thought was right).Anyhow, check out my blog: HearOhIsrael.blogspot.com for some hard-core Israeli politics and please feel free to agree/disagree.Be as blunt as possible.Hope to hear from you, Eitan.
